We believe that broader, global access to insights on the AF market will accelerate both technology innovation and clinical adoption, which will ultimately result in better patient outcomes.
A unique combination of experience across both
Wall Street and the EP industry
In 2005, Ryan joined the medical device equity research team at RBC Capital Markets and later became the lead analyst for three companies in the cardiology space – CryoCath, Thoratec, and ATS Medical. In addition, he supported the senior analyst in covering all strategic cardiology companies, including St Jude Medical (now part of Abbott), Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and Johnson & Johnson. His responsibilities included industry analysis, financial modeling, and authoring research reports on companies under coverage. Key activities included participating on quarterly conference calls with management teams, attending company-hosted investor events, and traveling to major medical congresses. Insights gained from these collective activities provided the foundation for all research reports he authored as an analyst.
Building on his experience as an analyst, Ryan joined Biosense Webster, Inc. (BWI) in 2010. BWI is the recognized market leader in cardiac ablation and is a part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies. Over the subsequent 12+ years, Ryan held various roles of increasing responsibilities in the Global Strategic Marketing organization. Across all roles, he led the competitive intelligence function at BWI and was responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting market insights from all publicly available sources. He presented findings to the BWI Global Management Board and functional leadership teams across the company. For EP industry congresses, Ryan led all competitive intelligence activities and presented daily updates to company attendees at the event. In his most recent role, Ryan led the BWI Strategic Planning process, which involved an annual environmental scan analyzing not only competitive updates but also trends across the AF market. These collective market insights were then utilized to generate actionable strategic recommendations for the business.
Ryan has a BA from Vanderbilt University and he then completed his MBA in Finance from the WP Carey School of Business at ASU. Ryan is a CFA charterholder and also has an active CPA license (Florida).
Ryan played baseball at Vanderbilt and long ago won a state championship in high school football. After college, he attempted many triathlons and even completed a few. Recently, he also took up surfing near his current home in Southern California. He spends most of his time under the board rather than standing on top of it.
Ryan is supported at industry congresses by medical device veterans with over 15 years of experience. These associates enable the coverage of multiple, simultaneous presentations.
Across both Wall Street and the EP industry, Ryan has authored comprehensive, actionable reports on the AF market for over 16 years. Let us now put our experience to work for you.
Our initial offering is the “AF Podium Connection”, a subscription-based service that provides comprehensive insights from the seven major congresses that include content on cardiac ablation.
AFME uses only publicly available information as sources and the analyses are truly independent - there are no sponsors or advertisements. Our deliverables include not only what was said – our 16+ years experience and deep understanding of current trends in the AF market enable us to also provide context and insights on the information presented.
The seven congresses included in the subscription are AF Symposium, ACC, EHRA, HRS, ESC, AHA, and APHRS. See more about congresses
After the congress, we provide Institutional subscribers with a comprehensive report organized by company and key topic. Our Executive Summaries provide brief overviews of the entire event, followed by 20+ pages with all the details you need as a stakeholder in the AF market. See for yourself – download the AF Symposium report for free here
We will attend all congresses in person and provide daily summary emails with highlights on what we saw “from the floor”.
Before each congress, we review the entire agenda, including posters, company-sponsored events, and separate events, i.e. the annual Stanford Biodesign Symposium before the main HRS congress. We filter out all items not related to AF and then publish a planner with key events at the congress specific to the AF market.
All Institutional subscribers will also receive any ad hoc reports published by AFME on specific topics such as Pulsed Field Ablation. Finally, AFME is available for consulting engagements in EP and other medical device markets.
At AFME, we want everyone involved in the development and utilization of new technologies for AF to have access to the most current insights, from physicians to industry to investors. We believe better global access to the latest AF market insights will accelerate the pace of both technology innovation and clinical utilization, improving patient outcomes around the world.
The partnership between EPs and industry has resulted in significant technology innovation that has improved the safety and efficacy of AF ablation procedures over the years. As a result, the global AF market has grown in size to $8bn with double digit annual growth rates, according to analyst models.
The pace of innovation has only accelerated in recent years, and the amount of information on new technologies can be overwhelming. Where do you find the latest information? Is it an important update, and if so, why? How does it compare to other new information? What is the trend over time?
To empower informed decisions, you need more than just pieces of information –
you need true insights.
